Enders Game

I am a big fan of Enders Game, I have read that title many times over, not to mention every book and short story in the extended universe. I was so pumped up for Enders Game a little while back that I made this Ender Poster. I tried to track down OSC to show him, and maybe arrange to sell them to his fans, but was blocked by his publishers at every turn. Orson — If you read this, let’s get it on.

The poster design itself is very conceptual, you’d have to read the book to really appreciate it. The only thing I can say is “The Enemy’s Gate Is Down.”

A coworker, sitting a mere 20 feet away from me, a writer/editor/publisher, knows OSC and has been on multiple email chains and has had discussions with him. Not sure how it will come up but I will mention it to him.

I’ve listened to Ender’s Game and SFTD about five or six times. I love them. Got stuck on Xenocide. (Wait, was that Han Fei-tzu, Han Qing-jao or Si Wang-mu?)

    “Go Nova!”

  • Red, It would be amazing if, somehow, I was able to present these to OSC.
Xenocide and Children of the mind are definitely a different type of read to Enders Game. They are much heavier in concept. I will give you a hint though, understanding the authors personal religion opens up a whole new world of possibilities when going through all of the “outside” where all the aiúas, or individual lives of all sentient life, exist. Very cool stuff, mind blowing even. I recommend another crack at it.

I share the same religion as the author. In fact, I live in his old home town.

I think listening to them, as opposed to reading them, had a lot to do with the hard time I had with Xenocide. I normally listen to them while at work, doing design, so I am only half paying attention. The names of the character are what threw me for a loop and so I lost interest.

Never got to Children Of The Mind but I do remember that reference from SFTD.

Anyway, check your email, I have a present for you. And last but not least, I really like your work, it’s good stuff!

  • Red, thank you for your kind words and that “present.” What a great surprise. Also, this isnt you is it? http://travisneilson.com/2009/06/05/have-you-met-red/

Strangely enough, I saw that post AFTER posting on your site. Weird. I’m tankful to say that isn’t me, hope he got the help he needed.

  • Oh, he was comfortable enough for his liking. He had to go meet up with his friends and catch the game anyway, kick off at seven. He is a vagrant by choice, in some ways I admire that.

  • Greetings from Brazil, Travis.

I was looking for “The enemy’s gate is down” at Google and just found your site. And I had to tell you, like it very much. Congrats! I enjoy this clean layout and the way you present your stuff. Great job.

And the Enders Game poster is amazing. I hope you can contact OSC because Im sure he’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

Excuse me if Im too excited, but I really liked your poster.

I would easily trade 100 swords for that poster…

From an early age Travis could be found with a sketch pad trying to capture the beauty and structure in the world around him. This desire to engage and create stayed with him. In his Adolescence he was able to find solid footing for his childhood passion by creating posters, flyers, web sites, t-shirts and album covers for his and other local bands. It was during this time that Travis decided on the direction of his life’s work.

As a Creative Director, Travis has been recognized by the American Federation of Advertisers, the International Association of Business Communicators and the Association of American Marketing. His designs have been featured in national magazines, branding textbooks and influential design websites. In his role at BRAINtrust Marketing he is responsible for all design and creative direction for the client portfolios. From websites and advertisements to annual reports and brochures, Travis brings his creativity and fine eye for design to produce world-class commercial art.

He is married to the love of his life, and in his spare time he tells jokes that are only moderately funny.
